Very Nearly Random returns

Hello again! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Yes, I’ve had a few people asking why I haven’t written any more blog posts- and frankly I couldn’t really give them a straight answer. I would sort of mutter something about being too busy or having too much coursework on or something, when really it was just me being lazy and being afraid to admit it.

Now though, it’s alright that I’m lazy. Because I’m officially a student. Since I posted last- at the end of my first year at College- I’ve been through endless prospecti, decided then decided against different courses and institutions and then applied to five universities to study English and French.

Eventually I ended up picking the one nearest to my home. Bit of a cop out, it might seem, until I hasten to tell you that Exeter is currently rated the 9th best university in the country (the best of all my choices), 6th best for English, and 9th for French.  I could go on about facilities, investment and teaching quality etc, but I won’t, for fear of this rapidly becoming something that sounds like something from the University’s press office.

Decision made, I awaited with bated breath my offer, followed by six long, hard months of practice exam papers, coursework and obsessing over how many marks I needed in each remaining module to obtain the required overall grades. Thank flippin’ goodness I never have to go through that again.

Now, by the skin of my teeth, I’m here, I’ve had Freshers’ Week (during half of which I had the dreaded ‘Freshers’ Flu’) and I’m in my third week of actual academic study. And I’ve got the urge to blog.

I won’t beat about the bush; the workload is pretty heavy, but I intend to type my thoughts down into something vaguely readable as much as possible, to give you a bit of an insight into the strange, fun, confusing and exciting world of being a student.

It’s taken me over a year to get this far, so we’ll see how long my next post takes…
